Trekking the Pyrenees by the HRP

From Coast to Coast

What's it all about?

This site presents a cut-down version of a completed work, which is the story of how we trekked the Pyrenees.

The site enables the viewer to know the scope and content of the completed work, by presentation of four sample chapters (Stages 3,20 & 34 plus 'Rest at Les Aldudes'). Photos associated with these chapters are also accessible, as is corresponding tabled data.

In Research of the HRP

Just a handful of European routes were selected to feature in Bill Birkett's coverage of the planet's greatest treks; the book 'Classic Treks' includes 'The High Route of the Pyrenees' in its European contingent. Lying between France and Spain, the HRP is one of the most accessible and attainable treks.

When the author and his wife decided to trek the HRP in 2002, they looked for a modern written account (narrative) of travel in the Pyrenees along with practical details and found little. This work attempts to redress that void.

Functional on your Computer ?

The completed product functions exactly as does this site, therefore if this site works OK on your browser and computer, so will the full site, which can be purchased on CD-ROM. In this site, indexes to chapters and photos are presented in their entirety, but only certain links are active.

Optimal requirements for display of this presentation are: Flat Screen (LCD) of 1024 x 768 pixels with Apple iMac running Microsoft Internet Explorer V4.0   Minimal requirements for use of this presentation are: Screen of 1024 x 768 pixels with any combination of recent PC or Mac running an internet browser.

The choice of computer and software used to display this presentation will affect its appearance. Smartness of layout is better on some systems than others; in particular, font types and sizes used to display text will make their impact felt. Efforts have been made to retain smartness for several versions of both Internet Explorer and Firefox, but some pop-up boxes may need scrolling or re-sizing for optimal presentation. If other problems are experienced, please report them back to the author, along with details of your computer (see below). If the table below does not contain three rows of data beneath the heading, then your computer and / or software will be too old to display this presentation.

Future Developments

This package is offered for sale as recently as June 2006. If you think that it lacks a minor component which would render it attractive for purchase, then I would be glad to know of it. One thing which I am already aware of is the need for stage maps showing position and progress; as soon as the first 100 discs are sold, I promise to add such maps, and all those who have already purchased will receive the revised edition.
