This site presents the story of how we trekked the Pyrenees. It is complete in its original concept, except for larger photos. Photographic material stored digitally demands a lot of web-server space which is costly, and this prevents inclusion of all. Samples of the larger photos are presented for chapters (stages) 3, 20 & 34.
Just a handful of European routes were selected to feature in Bill Birkett's coverage of the planet's greatest treks; the book 'Classic Treks' includes 'The High Route of the Pyrenees' in its European contingent. Lying between France and Spain, the HRP is one of the most accessible and attainable treks.
When the author and his wife decided to trek the HRP in 2002, they looked for a modern written account (narrative) of travel in the Pyrenees along with practical details and found little. This work attempts to redress that void.
The completed product is available on-disc and will function exactly as does this site, therefore if this on-line site works OK on your browser and computer, so will the site on CD-ROM. In the on-line site, links to the large photos are presented but only certain are active.
